When you have a website your goal will be to create a user friendly, professional site and just as important will be to optimize your site so that a lot of people find that site that you worked so hard on. It is very important to optimize your site for all search engines. While many webmasters only think about Google, one should keep in mind all of the top search engines. You will want to rank as highly as possible in the engines that people use the most. Therefore, let’s take a look at Top 10 SEO Tips for Google, Yahoo, and Bing to make your site as visible as possible and increase your traffic.

Google Search Homepage

While you are creating your website there are two ways of looking at your site and to have a successful website, you must look at both sides of the coin at the same time. You want visitors to enjoy visiting your website. You want them to find it informative and helpful. You probably want them to keep coming back. And depending on the type of site that you have you will want them to take some type of action. This action may be clicking on advertisements, signing up for your newsletter, or even buying directly from your site. The average person only takes between 1 and 3 seconds to decide if they are going to stay on a site or hit the back button. Therefore, one of your main goals must be to make your website inviting so that people will want to stay and see what your site is all about. Or at the very least, you will want them to stay long enough to take whatever action it is that you wish for.

Bing Search Homepage

On the other side of the coin, you must create a site so that people can find you. The most beautifully designed, most user friendly, most interesting site in the world will do you no good if no one can find you. If that site that you worked so hard on is hidden on page 50 of the search results, you won’t have a chance to impress those visitors.

Yahoo Search Homepage

So, how do you make a great site and do what you must so that it is easily found? The answer is in SEO. This is search engine optimization. Your goal will be to incorporate all of your great design ideas, and then make sure that the text on each of your pages is optimized properly so that people will find you when they search for you. This will be your keywords, the words that someone types into a search bar in order to find information. And you want them to find you. So, let’s look at the top 10 SEO Tips for Google, Yahoo, and Bing.

Tip One: Insert your keywords in the title tag of each page, so that the search engines clearly know what your page is about. Each page should have a different keyword/s.

Tip Two: Be sure that your keyword is one that the average person will search for. If your site is about flowers, you would not want your keywords to be “nature’s beauty on a stem”. Be direct.

Tip Three: Use those same keywords as a text link to another page in your site. This can be done somewhere in the body of the page.

Tip Four: Treat each page as if it were its own website. If each page is almost identical, the search engines will steer clear. It is best to take one subject and break it up into smaller sections, each being a page with its own keywords.

Tip Five: Do not then type those keywords all over the page. This is looked at as spamming. You should have your keywords several times on a page; however make sure that they fit in with your text. If you feel that you have to keep using those keywords, look for synonyms.

Tip Six: Stay away from link farms and do not pay for links. Look to exchange links with legitimate sites that are in the same category as your site.

Tip Seven: Never use a doorway; these are designed for robots and not for people. Search engines do not like them.

Tip Eight: Add title tags to your text links. This is similar to when you use an alt tag to show text for images when someone hovers their mouse over them.

Tip Nine: Use an alt tag for your images. Your site probably has a good amount of image and you don’t want these to go to waste.

Tip Ten: Submit your site to search engines yourself or allow it to be found by having links to your site on other legitimate sites…

Use these top 10 SEO Tips for Google, Yahoo, and Bing and you can’t go wrong.

Web Links Per Page

Matt Cutts Said:

If a page started to have more than that many links, there was a chance that the page would be so long that Google would truncate the page and wouldn’t index the entire page. These days, Google will index more than 100K of a page, but there’s still a good reason to recommend keeping to under a hundred links or so: the user experience. If you’re showing well over 100 links per page, you could be overwhelming your users and giving them a bad experience. A page might look good to you until you put on your “user hat” and see what it looks like to a new visitor. But in some cases, it might make sense to have more than a hundred links. Does Google automatically consider a page spam if your page has over 100 links? No, not at all. The “100 links” recommendation is in the “Design and content” guidelines section, and it’s the Quality guidelines that contain the things that we consider web spam (stuff like hidden text, doorway pages, installing malware, etc.). Can pages with over 100 links be spammy? Sure, especially if those links are hidden or keyword-stuffed. But pages with lots of links are not automatically considered spammy by Google.

Hidden text & links
The act of making the text the same colour as the background, people seem to think that the search engines are dim enough to over look white text on a white back ground. This one is as old as they come and the search engines are aware of it. Sites may rank using these methods for a while as it can take a little while for the engines to catch up with them. The same goes for white text links on a white back ground! People have now taken to hiding text and links behind invisable CSS divs and even using the Z index to hide the text off the page

Double tags
Duplicate title tags, duplicate Meta tags are an old trick that again do not give any real boosts in the search engines.

Cloaking

The art of delivering the search engine one page and giving the user a different page. For the best effect the server will scan the IP address of the incoming connection to the web server. If it matches an IP address that is known to belong to a search engine it will get a text rich page with heavily descriptive title tags, Meta tags and text copy. If the next IP address is not recognised it must belong to a user, if so the server will deliver it a normal page – with graphics etc… If cloaking is done correctly it is undetectable, the search engines will continue to get the text heavy pages while the normal visitors get the nice looking graphics site.

Poor mans cloaking is looking for the user agent string and then delivering content based on that alone, this is really easy to detect as it is simple to spoof your user agent and then detect the cloaking.

Blog & Wiki spamming
As you know search engines place great importance on links (if not where have you been for the last 18 months) that point to your website, so much so that people will place their text links anywhere just to increase their backlink count. Blogs are sites enable site owners to easily post their thoughts to as it is all done with a content management system. One of the unique selling points of a blog is that it lets any person comment to the site, it enables you to have a full and open discussion about any topic in such a way that has never been seen before. With the openness of a blog you may leave yourself wide open to blog spammers, people who run automated crawlers who hunt out blogs and then post keyworded text links, these guys dont just hit a few a day – we are talking hundreds of thousands maybe even millions. These sorts of tactics are live fast die young, as the search engines can close down the benefits of the links maybe with in a few months and then eventually knock out the domain the links are pointing to. There are a few things that are out there to stop the blog spammers but all seem to be falling short – spammers hit the blogs that are old and not updated any more and hit thousands at a time.

Wiki’s are sites that will let anyone add or update the content of any page on the site, great for adding links to! Some people say the knew choice of blog spammers.

Hijacking/pagejacking
The latest and nastiest of spamming there currently is. The way that Google currently reads 302 redirects has a slight fault in it, if a page that has a 302 redirect to another site of a lower PR there is every chance that the page doing the redirecting will start to rank for the other pages keyphrases dependant on several other factors. I dont want to go into to much detail on this one, dont want any more hijackers out there than there already are ;o) Webmasterworld pagejacking thread
