			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Similar to people and culture, Search Engine Optimization do have myths as well .I was looking through an SEO forum once when I came across a post that asks if web sites need to be updated frequently to optimize traffic. My first thought was, of course because the World Wide Web is constantly changing, web sites have to the updated to keep the content fresh as search engines like fresh and frequently updated content.</p>
<p><strong>Myth # 1. Submitting your URL to search engines is a must.</strong></p>
<p>This is an old school SEO rule. It may have worked years ago, but today it’s no longer necessary to submit sites to search engines. If you start external link building then your web site will be automatically indexed by search engines sooner or later. However it is necessary to submit your URL to at least Google, Yahoo and MSN. By submitting your URL to Google and Yahoo you can take advantage of their tools such as Google Webmaster Tool, Yahoo Site Explorer etc.</p>
<p><strong>Myth # 2. The more times the keyword is repeated, the higher the web site will rank.</strong></p>
<p>Now, this is something you need to look into. Search engine uses different algorithms that have different factors for ranking sites. The best keyword density would be 3-15%. Any higher than that and the search engine will penalize your site. This measure was adopted by various search engines to stop spammer spamming the keywords.</p>
<p><strong>Myth # 3. Put hidden links in your pages to rank higher.</strong></p>
<p>Stuffing hidden links in pages will only get your site penalized or worst banned. Some search engines will label your site as spam and keep it off its pages for good. The links in your web site shall be in same colour as background colour of pages. This is considered as spamming, specially by Google.</p>
<p><span id="more-166"></span><strong>Myth # 4. Contents need to be 250 words at all times.</strong></p>
<p>I used to follow this rule in the past. I made sure that all contents in my web site were 250 words in length. When my friend saw what I was doing he told me I was following a silly rule. Short copies or long copies rank well in search engines. So, it doesn’t matter how long my copies are as long as it is incorporated with the right keywords. It is the quality of relevant content which counts. You may not necessarily have all the pages in your web site with 250 words. A typical example is contact us page which would be hard to populate with any content than your telephone numbers and e-mails. But for pages which are informative try to have as much content as possible.</p>
<p>It is also good idea to spread long content into additional pages and provide navigation to these pages from each other.</p>
<p><strong>Myth # 5. Adding meta tags will help rank your site.</strong></p>
<p>Meta tags used to be very important element in the past for indexing and ranking which is no more the case. However still there are search engines which give importance to meta tags such as keywords and description.</p>
<p>I would recommend to have at least keywords and description meta tags on all of your web pages which shall be relevant to the pages and shall not be spammed.</p>
<p>There are people who go on saying that meta tags are completely redundant which is not the case.</p>
<p>There are just some of the many SEO myths that I have compiled here. They are all not true all the time, but some sites claim that these myths have work for them. If you decide to follow these myths, test it many times first. Remember, they may not always work. So, be careful in practicing them.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Global internet information provider <a href="http://www.comscore.com/" target="_blank">comScore</a> has just released research which shows that Google became Canada’s most-visited website for the first time in January, overthrowing the Microsoft destinations which had previously been the most popular.</p>
<p>This is not a terribly surprising development as the search giant has long been one of the most popular websites globally and is the most visited in the UK. In Japan, it is beaten by Yahoo! and closely followed by various Microsoft sites.</p>
<p>Recently, Dan Cobley, Google’s director of marketing for UK, Ireland and Benelux, told IT Wales that the internet allows businesses access to customers they could never previously have engaged.</p>
<p>He highlighted:</p>
<blockquote><p>“Even the smallest company operating out of a garage and with a marketing budget of a few pounds a week, can tap into these new opportunities.”</p></blockquote>
<p>As the importance of search engines grows across the worldwide markets, there are more opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to market themselves within an international arena, all they need is visibility.</p>

Both are essential, yet employ very different techniques and ideas. How can design and SEO live together in harmony?</p>
<p><strong>The Design Side</strong></p>
<p>Designers create Web sites with the audience in mind. Too often they believe a user&#8217;s experience dictates success. A simple &#8220;build it and they will come&#8221; mindset pervades their approach to site design. That&#8217;s not all bad.</p>
<p>At a very basic level, creative teams long to tell a story. Through design and copy, the team takes a brand and crafts a world for it. They instill a Web site with a look and theme; a feel and flavor. Often, the most effective way to convey a message is through more expressive technologies like Flash, AJAX, and Silverlight. Even video integration has become more prevalent with increased broadband penetration.</p>
<p>Designers want to make use of these technologies because they engage the user. Technological integration helps tell the brand story and bring design to life. If Flash or Silverlight will make the overall site experience more enticing and interactive, then designers should implement them accordingly.</p>
<p><strong>The SEO Side</strong></p>
<p>If a designer tells a story, then the search engineer provides directions to the lecture hall where it&#8217;s told. The SEO side focuses heavily on traffic and visibility, believing a Web site must be seen to be heard.</p>
<p><span id="more-76"></span>Now here&#8217;s a surprise. Remember those cool technologies the creative team wants to use? Well, SEO wants to use them too. They&#8217;re just more cautious.</p>

Both must also consider how visitors will reach the site. Will they find it solely through search? Or will a media blitz help drive traffic to the site? All these elements must be considered when negotiating design and optimization issues.</p>

Of that number, 63 percent look only at the first page of results at most.</p>
<p>And if you want your site to be there, you need to put a family of strategies called search marketing a catch-all term for search engine optimization and pay-per-click advertising to work for your business.</p>
<p>SEO encompasses the strategies for earning top rankings in free search engines. These are called &#8220;organic&#8221; or &#8220;natural&#8221; listings. You can actually direct the way your site&#8217;s listed and improve your ranking by giving the search engines what they&#8217;re looking for.</p>
<p>The goal is to optimize your site so search engines will consider it relevant. Then, they&#8217;ll place your site in the top results when people are searching for your product or service. Here are some key SEO strategies:</p>

<li>Collect links from other sites that are considered reputable and relevant. Natural, relevant inbound links are search engine gold. <p>The Semantic Web is a (currently theoretical) future state of the World Wide Web where information is machine-processable, rather than just machine-renderable for human viewing. Software will then be able to better find, organise and merge the data as it will have more &#8220;understanding&#8221; of the meaning of the data.</p>
<p>For example, if I go to a web page about a particular conference, my calendar software would be able to interpret the web page to extract the date, time and location of the conference. This may then allow it to show me available flights for the conference or transfer the data directly to my car&#8217;s GPS system. This is a simple example, but demonstrates the power The Semantic Web could provide.</p>
<p>The are many different technologies which have been proposed to describe this &#8220;meaning&#8221; to computers including: Resource Description Framework (RDF), RDF Schema (RDFS), Web Ontology Language (OWL (sic)), XML and many more. The discussion of these is beyond the scope of this article.</p>
<p><span id="more-57"></span><strong>How could The Semantic Web effect search?</strong></p>
<p>The Semantic Web will allow search engines to be much more intelligent and give answers to more general queries. For example, rather then searching for &#8220;Florida Holidays&#8221;, I may be able to search for &#8220;Sunny holiday destinations that are fun for kids in America&#8221;. Most humans would be able to give Florida as a possible answer to this query. However, for a computer to come to the same conclusion it must &#8220;understand&#8221; information much better than it currently can. A search engine needs to know that Florida is a sunny place, that is it good for kids and that it is in America. Thus, significant amounts of AI technology will also need to be developed.</p>
<p><strong>How will this change SEO?</strong></p>
<p>It is hard to say how The Semantic Web will change SEO, as the technology has not really developed into a useable state yet. However, if webmasters are required to label the meanings of the items on their web pages then their may be large amounts of spam annotations.</p>
<p>No matter how The Semantic Web changes the WWW, it likely that the fundamentals of SEO will still remain relevant for a long time. They may even become more important, because as search engines understand more about your content and the links to your content they will be better equip to judge the quality of those links.</p>

<p>My first impressions were very positive: a potentially theoretical book made alive through the valid use of PHP code examples that permeated the pages with context. A well described book detailing many types of pressures and risks for the budding Search Engine Marketer or website engineer. The book taught me — without pain — a great deal on a complex subject area of which I knew little.</p>
