We could talk for days about all of the elements needed to make a successful website and we wouldn’t be wasting any of our time, there are a lot of optimization and content elements that could have you redesigning your site over and over. But to get right down to the grind, keywords are the most important aspect of a site, no ifs ands or buts. If you fail with your keywords, it would be just about impossible to imagine how your site could be successful. Let’s talk about the number one most important element of all, how to find highly profitable keywords.

Highly Profitable Keywords

Everyone knows that keywords are crucial to a site, however what makes a keyword are good keyword? What are the guidelines that let you know how to find highly profitable keywords and not ones that will sink your ship, so to speak? The answer is that highly profitable keywords will be words or phrases which are frequently searched for in major search engines, but that are not already being used by a large amount of websites. Sound tricky, doesn’t it? Well, it is a bit tricky; however that is the magic of the Internet. And we will discuss several ways on how you can find highly profitable keywords to either optimize your site better or to get a new website off to a great start.

One of the first things that you may wish to do is to get out a pad of paper instead of getting on the keyboard. Brainstorm for a few moments. Your site must have a theme, it must have a focus, a certain set of words that tell what your website is about. The secret is to slightly change those words so that they are still words that are searched for, but your competition is lower. For example if your site is about soap, millions of people type in the very generalized word “soap”, too many for you to compete against. Therefore, you will need to come up with profitable keywords for your site, and use a different keyword that does have a good amount of use, but not so much that you are hidden by your competition.

One great tool for finding highly profitable keywords is the Wordtracker. It functions as many keyword generators do, you enter the keyword that you had in mind and Wordtracker will suggest hundreds of alternatives, all similar to your idea, but slightly different, perhaps finding you that perfect niche that we are all in search of.

You may also wish to check out Google Adwords Keyword tool, originally meant to help advertisers figure out how much to bid on words, you can use this in much the same way. You can enter one keyword or several at the same time. It also allows you to filter results if you wish, for example one filter will keep out profanity. Then, suggestions are listed out for you along with number. You’ll notice that the numbers let you know how many times each certain keyword was searched for in the last month. In some cases information is not available, and while it is not stated, one would assume that the number is very low.

Keyword spy is another resource that works a bit differently. You can actually type in a keyword and it will let you know which sites are currently implementing that very same keyword. You can then also see which other keywords that are using as well.

The following article about how to use Twitter to boost your web traffic should guarantee the receipt of desirable traffic. If you put good news on Twitter, then you usually receive good news. If, instead, you choose to post on Twitter a piece of information that you do not want made public, then you are sure to receive a lot of unwanted web traffic. By following the suggestion given in the following article, you should be able to avoid getting such unwanted web traffic. This is not the only way to boost traffic by using Twitter, but it is a method that recently received widespread distribution.

How to Twitter

Do the employees in your company provide your clientele with highly commendable customer service? Would you like to spread the word about your great customer service? Suppose that you could spread the word on Twitter. Would you like to learn how you can use Twitter to boost your web traffic?

Twitter Traffic

Kevin Stirtz, a writer has given every company with great customer service an additional way to get more “hits” on their website by making judicious use of Twitter. Stirtz writes content for the website amazingserviceguy.com. Stirtz happens to be looking for customer service stories. To be more specific, Stirtz wants to hear about customer service stories that have been posted on Twitter.

Earlier, Stirtz used HARO in order to put out a request for such stories. He has already received a number of stories, but he does not want to see an end to the flood of emails that he has received. Moreover, Stitrtz hopes to compose an article that will contain samples of good customer service from a broad range of different industries.

So, if you own and operate a business that is part of the banking industry, the healthcare industry, the retail industry, the insurance industry, the hospitality industry or the education field, then you need to get busy recalling all of the times when your employees demonstrated great customer service. Compose a short story about that example of good customer service and put it on Twitter.

If you happen to head a business that offers professional services, such as accounting or legal help, then you, too, need to dig in your memory for recollections of times when your employees showed great customer service. If you own and operate a small business, Stirtz is waiting to hear about any time when one or more of your employees demonstrated real skill in the delivery of great customer service.

Twitter Background

Of course, do not send word about your great customer service directly to Kevin Stirtz. First, put the details of that great customer service on Twitter. Allow it to look like a testimonial. Then send a note to Stirtz about the posting on Twitter concerning your great customer service.

How should you get in touch with this writer? Use the form that he has developed for the collection of Twitter stories. You will find that form at http://tinyurl.com/twervice. By responding to this request, you will not only please Kevin Stirtz, you will also delight Peter Shankman. Peter is the person who came up with the idea for HARO. Peter has helped you to learn about how to use Twitter to Boost your web traffic. The number of hits to your website that a response is sure to generate should make you, as a business owner, very happy.

There were very few ways of making money from websites at one point, affiliate schemes, banners ads, membership fees, selling products. Each one of these have their own problems some being difficult to set up, others not being as affective as they once were and a few being very costly with some times high over heads.

Google AdSense to the Rescue!
The wise people at the Google plex have come up with a novel idea, they will place ads on your pages that are relevant to your content, these ads are taken from their large database of contextual advertisers – Adwords. When some one visits your site and clicks on an ad Google get paid an agreed amount by the advertiser – Google then shares some of that money with you.

Google allow you to change the look and feel of the advert that is shown on your site and also the placement, by doing this you can place it in highly visible spots on your page and also use colours that may attract more attention.

Click Fraud
There are adsense publishers that use automated software spiders to click on ads on their own sites in a bid to drive up their monthly earnings. This threatens to close the program as Google are then forced to explain to the Adword advertisers where the money is going and how Google plan to police the situation. In the press recently there has been a high profile court case of Google click fraud where some using the same tactic as above has been taken to court by Google – let this be a lesson to all adsense publishers with click bot scripts. Google are serious about this and will act upon all abuse to their system.

Basic Adsense Tips
Placement of the ads are key, there is no point in placing the ads at the very bottom of the page. Not all people are going to scroll to the bottom of your pages (no matter how good a writer you are), maybe having the ad in the center of the page will help Type of ad can make a difference as well from the 468 x 60 banner or the 120 x 600 the difference in size can drive a higher click through rate. Last tip is to play around with the clolur of the ads. A blue border, grey background and orange text can help to draw attention to the ad and increase the click throughs….

Hidden text & links
The act of making the text the same colour as the background, people seem to think that the search engines are dim enough to over look white text on a white back ground. This one is as old as they come and the search engines are aware of it. Sites may rank using these methods for a while as it can take a little while for the engines to catch up with them. The same goes for white text links on a white back ground! People have now taken to hiding text and links behind invisable CSS divs and even using the Z index to hide the text off the page

Double tags
Duplicate title tags, duplicate Meta tags are an old trick that again do not give any real boosts in the search engines.

Cloaking

The art of delivering the search engine one page and giving the user a different page. For the best effect the server will scan the IP address of the incoming connection to the web server. If it matches an IP address that is known to belong to a search engine it will get a text rich page with heavily descriptive title tags, Meta tags and text copy. If the next IP address is not recognised it must belong to a user, if so the server will deliver it a normal page – with graphics etc… If cloaking is done correctly it is undetectable, the search engines will continue to get the text heavy pages while the normal visitors get the nice looking graphics site.

Poor mans cloaking is looking for the user agent string and then delivering content based on that alone, this is really easy to detect as it is simple to spoof your user agent and then detect the cloaking.

Blog & Wiki spamming
As you know search engines place great importance on links (if not where have you been for the last 18 months) that point to your website, so much so that people will place their text links anywhere just to increase their backlink count. Blogs are sites enable site owners to easily post their thoughts to as it is all done with a content management system. One of the unique selling points of a blog is that it lets any person comment to the site, it enables you to have a full and open discussion about any topic in such a way that has never been seen before. With the openness of a blog you may leave yourself wide open to blog spammers, people who run automated crawlers who hunt out blogs and then post keyworded text links, these guys dont just hit a few a day – we are talking hundreds of thousands maybe even millions. These sorts of tactics are live fast die young, as the search engines can close down the benefits of the links maybe with in a few months and then eventually knock out the domain the links are pointing to. There are a few things that are out there to stop the blog spammers but all seem to be falling short – spammers hit the blogs that are old and not updated any more and hit thousands at a time.

Wiki’s are sites that will let anyone add or update the content of any page on the site, great for adding links to! Some people say the knew choice of blog spammers.

Hijacking/pagejacking
The latest and nastiest of spamming there currently is. The way that Google currently reads 302 redirects has a slight fault in it, if a page that has a 302 redirect to another site of a lower PR there is every chance that the page doing the redirecting will start to rank for the other pages keyphrases dependant on several other factors. I dont want to go into to much detail on this one, dont want any more hijackers out there than there already are ;o) Webmasterworld pagejacking thread
